Chatterbooks

These are Thurso’s thoughts and ideas on Chatterbooks.  (See also write up from Wick in Criomagan Jan/Feb 2003)
bookworm gif We have found it very successful and have 12 children in the group with a waiting list of 14. This is very encouraging and we have found that the lucky 12 are really enjoying “chattering”.  It seems essential to ensure that a lot of preparation is done before each three weekly session as the age factor of 6 to 8 year olds is demanding and their attention span is short.

We decided that a theme was essential as this made it clear as to how to organise each session.

Heather worked really hard in putting together last Friday’s session.

3.30pm            Arrive and get organised

blue bullet Book marks ready for designing

3.45pm            Discuss last session’s books and give out book review slips

blue bullet Read small part of book if they wish

4.00pm            Design book cover for jacketing

4.15pm            Discuss why we need jacketing

                        blue bullet Jacket their covers

4.20pm            Show some internet sites and issue internet user  slips

4.30pm            Choose new books and check  suitability  for each child

                        blue bullet Issue letters

The letter being sent home with each child is to invite them to the Chatterbooks Launch in Wick on 21st March 2003 with best selling author of ‘Gruffalo’, Julia Donaldson, who together with her husband will introduce them to some of her well known characters. It really is something to look forward to especially for the staff.
